More new Mal Function...

Zoo Escape - Mal Function

Riveted to be here - Mal Function

Hooters Out - Mal Function

Mandrill Mayhem - Mal Function

I know it's not that long ago that I featured Mal Function's heads on this blog, but since my last article he's brought out some new colour schemes that really are quite different than the monochromatics that I featured. I really love his titles too. You can check out more on his flickr site here:

Mal Function on the streets of Melbourne

mal function - Envy

mal function - TNT

mal function - He's just a poor boy from a poor family

mal function - Peak Hour

Another Melbourne artist I've been following is Mal Function, who's cast faces have been popping up on walls and lamp posts around Fitzroy and Brunswick hoods. They started off fairly monochromatic, but he's moving into a much brighter area now, and some of the more recent faces are sporting Asian dragon graphics, Celtic tattoos and Kiss style make-up.

Check his work here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/malfunction36/

Some pics from my sis on her last trip to Melbers

Melbourne alley (click on image to enlarge)

Mr happy with my wiggly arms, mr happy with my big nose, and happy Dunphy with a salt shaker...)

Well, when your sister starts sending you pics that she took wondering down a strange alleyway in down town Melbourne while she was there on a business conference you know that your obsession has become infectious! (well, it is impacting on your family...)

Thanks Heather, send more - give Blacklodge!! a run for his money!

Mephisto Jones in Melbourne

Jones in the courtyard of Section 8 (click on image to enlarge)

While we're on the Melbourne trip, it would appear that my old mate Otis has been doing a bit of mural work at Section 8 in Tattersalls Lane, Melbourne. Keeping it real - good job bro. Thanks for the pic Blacklodge!!

I've been following a very talented (and somewhat humorous) Canadian artist for a while now. His name is Troy Lovegate, and he creates under the name 'Other'. This is from a series he did a little while ago called "Hobo in a bottle". He works in a number of medium, from lino print over photos to painting with wooden spoons (yep - weird I know), and he used to live in an abandoned train yard apparently. Some of his street art is awesome, predominantly B&W portraiture.

He has recently returned from a 4 month sponsored art scholarship in Melbourne. I look forward with eager anticipation to seeing how this trip will effect his style.

Check out more of Troy's work here...

Mephisto Jones in Melbourne

Further to my earlier post about trans-tasman rivalry, it appears that my old mate Otis has been over in Melbourne again recently, with a slew of new characters. Looks like he's going back to his dark-side characters again. Thanks for the pic Blacklodge!!

Trans-Tasman exchange programme

Blacklodge!!'s pic from Melbourne (this week)

Saw a piece I recognised on blacklodge!!'s flickr this morning. Thought: I recognize that! Looked thru the photos I shot in Wellington about 4 or more years ago, and sure enough...

Interesting how many of our/their artists cross the ditch to make their mark, especially to Melbourne 'cause it's so inspirational. Blacklodge!! shot some of Otis's (Mephisto Jones) in Melbourne last week too. It's up on his flickr site now, check it:

Refreshingly original style making waves

New post from Blacklodge!! last week with this great style. The piece is from Reka & Phibs, and can be found on Rose Street, Fitzroy, Melbourne. Great retro colour-way too. When I get tired of London I think I'll relocate to Melbourne - there's just so damn much creativity oozing out of every corner if that city.

More great stuff on the streets of Melbourne

My man in Melbourne is definitely doing the rounds. He must be snapping every day on his way to work or something. Posting up a prolific amount of great stuff. He's managed to find some Banksy rats, and I love this TMNT piece too. Check out Blacklodge!!s pics on:

Melbourne leaving the rest of the graffiti world behind

Some great graph pics up on Blacklodge!!'s flickr site recently. I love what's going on in the scene over there at the moment. Melbourne excels as Australia's creative capital, and blacklodge!! has captured it nicely in his extensive street exposay. It's also fantastic that he's noted down all the locations for all of his pics too, for anyone who is there to take the tour to see the pieces for themselves.

Blacklodge!! also belongs to an excellent flickr group called Stencil Graffiti, which has 934 members and features over 13, 000 photos. Highly recommend checking it out if stencil is your bag.
