Bits & pieces from Rotterdam

A nice job on this street workers caravan

Ramon's magnificent 4 story building.
There's some pics and a feature on him doing this last year here:

Noticed a few nicely detailed hand cut-outs in Central

Unfortunately someone had taken the tile next to this one.

Here's a little snip of some of the Rotterdam stuff. Some very nice walls and some great stencils, which will feature in posts to come, but here's a taste in the meantime...

Happy snaps: cheer up matie - you're on holiday

Thought I'd chuck up a few pics of this building we'd seen on our way into Rotterdam central. Thanks to Jen's fantastic sense of direction we found the spot again, so you get to enjoy as much as we did.

Caught this nice piece on our way out of Holland. Impressive size and detail. Check it out in the following pics - some nice techniques employed here inc. some great texture effects. The artist is Onesto. There was a plaque at the bottom saying "Dier Gaar Desingel" if that means anything to anyone?

On the streets of Rotterdam

On the tail of our recent trip to Holland we stopped for a night and day in the port town of Rotterdam. I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. The port is utterly huge, the largest in Europe actually, and until 2004 was the worlds busiest until it was out-bussied by Shanghai.

Well, that's enough of a history/geography lesson, so here's what you came for... the graf. There was quite a bit of it around the city, so I'll feature it in the coming month. Let's just start with this wall - a collaboration between Dstruct Collective, Lastplak and Others with some help from our own London Police. Nice.

C215 in Brighton

Went down to Brighton with the lovely Jenni for a weekend away and came across some really nice pieces inc. this C215 piece on the wall beside the ArtRepublic gallery. Took a lot of photos down there and will be putting them up as time allows over the next little while, as well as some new stuff from around London and some features from my recent trip back to NZ. Watch this space...

Meeting of styles wall from Sclater street

Me next to Nash's portion of the mural (click to enlarge)

Click on image to check the detail on this baby!

Finally got my A into G and got the Sclater Street car park mural panorama comp sorted. The joins are a bit rough, but you get the idea. There must have been about 10-12 guys working on this at the time MOS was on. They all had their own spaces, but made the time to come together to create this group project. You get some idea of the scale of this project when you look at thi pic of me standing next to Nash's bit of it next to the lamp post.

Met the lovely Finnish artist Netta about a month ago while she was doing a wall at 333 Mother in Old street. We had a chat and I took some pics (will post that project up too soon). That was her first commission, and it went really well. This is her second, and this girl is gonna be the one to watch over the next year.

New piece on the front wall of Cargo in Shoreditch. Not sure who the artist is yet. We went down to photograph Netta's new work there, but got this on the way in. Bonus.

Havana 100 minutes final (review)

Monorex detail (click to enlarge)

Well, I was lucky enough to score a last minute guest list pass to Havana 100 minutes Secret Wars final at Village Underground's awesome 5,000 sqm space in Shoreditch last night (mucho gratsi Emma/Balance PR). The gig kicked off with the usual hour or so of schmoozing with free cocktails courtesy of Havana Club, fantastic finger foods from JJ Catering, and some pretty nice dj styles from dj Session & friends.

Celebrating street art and Cuban culture in a creative and original style, Monorex v Intercity art-off began about 8pm, and ran for 100 minutes with a giant projection of the logo on the far wall acting as the clock (1 of the 100 pieces disappearing every minute) until the final countdown. The cocktail barmen and waiting staff were run ragged as the arty/streety/trendy/wanky punters packed the space and consumed as much free shit as their little faces could manage.

Intercity detail (click to enlarge)

Style-wise, in my opinion, Monorex kicked Intercity's ass, with a strong, considered piece created by the 5 artists using a fantastic style and solidity of line and colour. Intercity seemed to have 5 artists all working independently of each other, using a weak, almost single weight of line and a definite naive aesthetic. The only apparent point of teamwork for Intercity was at the beginning, when they painted a giant target in the background of their area, and at the end, when they paint bombed their entire piece (and the audience) with watered down red acrylic paint balls.

Judging (click to enlarge)

Judging was carried out by some members of the judging panel, and by the audience (measured with a decibel meter.

The party rolled on into the night, a good time had by all. My camera is completely stuffed now, so had to rely on my phone for the pics from the night - sorry, even photoshop can't help a pic that's shite to start with. I'm sure more pics will be posted up by others soon, as soon as their rum hangover wears off...
