These are posted up on the Wooster site from the lonely Villein. Here is the link to his flickr site, which seems to be the ultimate Banksy collection, as well as some other awesome stencil work from around the country. Check it out:

Sr.X from Spain has just released some new works on his spanking new website. Nice simple gallery site where the work is split into outdoor/indoor/more/contact, and in Spanish and English (for those of us who've been to Spain a number of times but who's Spanish is, well, shite!)

This is a nice bit on his contact page -

Born in the Interzone, now in Gijón, Spain.
You can mail him or post a comment in his Flickr or Blog,
then he can save your soul... if you want.

Some random pieces around Brick Lane and 'hood

Wandering around on the high street at the bagel end of Brick Lane when I ran into my mate Si Hill. We were standing there talking about graffiti and stuff. He showed me some of the stuff he'd photographed the week before, and I showed him some of my best of the day. We were talking about observation when I looked down at the ground and saw this piece at the bottom of a pillar at foot path level, highlighting how observant you've got to be to see everything around us (Si didn't notice it till I bent down to take the pic).

Death of graffiti photographer Ian Talty

Ian Talty (click on image to enlarge)

I was saddened this morning to hear of the death of Ian Talty, a photographer known for documenting graffiti in and around Minnesota, USA.

Abandoned (click on image to enlarge)

Ian was killed while taking photos in a drainage tunnel underneath the Marshall Avenue bridge. The tunnel suddenly became flooded when a thunderstorm broke over the city. Tragically, Ian drowned as his body was swept into the Mississippi River.

He was an prolific photographer, with a humble spirit, and every Twin Cities writer and street artist who knew about his Flickr checked it religiously, hoping that he would choose their work for his next subject.

Artists and photographers venturing out to photograph or put up work - and drowning in tunnels and storm drains because of flash flooding - is apparently not as rare as it may seem.

This is the comment on one of his mid April flickr pics:
"Where else would I be on a Sunday? I'll tell you where: In a drain if the river wasn't so goddamn high"

Do check out his "The joy of the mundane" flickr site. He has about 3,000 pics up on line in various places, but this flickr address is probably the best and shows a lot of his excellent detail and texture shots too.

Your First Album Cover in 4 Easy Steps

A friend sent me this today, and it's a great exercise, and brilliant fun too. Have a go following the 4 steps outlined below:

1 - Go to "wikipedia." Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to "Random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Note: you can't always pull pics off flickr (some people have their photos locked and you'll get a spaceball.gif). In this case, just refresh and go for the third pic of the refreshed screen.

4 - Use Photoshop (or similar) to put it all together.

5 - Post it to Facebook as a note and tag the friends you want to join in (inc. me, 'cause I wanna see yours too...)
