Elbow-Toe from the archives

Poppy Medusa - Elbow-Toe

Ha! Was flicking through Elbow-Toe's website when I came across one of his pieces from '07. I recognised it from my flickr archive (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hamstar/455081318/in/set-72157600064219416/), and sure enough...

He has a new exhibition opening in NY this week, but some truly lovely street pieces from the last few years on his site:

Shadow mastery from British artists Tim Noble & Sue Webster. These pics may be from a while ago, but it's the first time I've seen them. Photos from enTropious88.

This is a fun little ap I came across today. It's a bit cheesey, but makes you smile. Feed the fish with your cursor. Available from:

Only in Sweden - Brad Downey permanently

Um, ok, it's a bunch of ugly graffiti on a garage wall, so what?

Ah, but it's not! It's tiled for permanence...

But, ironically enough, it's been tagged and postered before you even
managed to get the photo taken (see top left). I just really wonder...

Swedish artist Brad Downey mozaics his way into creative deformity by tiling a wall of the worlds ugliest graf and tags* to make a permanent reminder of why some of public thinks public art is tasteless vandalism. From Brad: "I had alot of fun and help from Ruskig, August, Jazz, Ajja, and many many more students from the Hip Hop School in Malmo. We took a wall covered in illegal graffiti and made it permanent.

Great concept, but not entirely sure Brad was the man for the job (and sorry, I'm not usually one to pass judgment on artists work, but... Photos by August Dahllöf

Strok tidal piece in Traena harbour, Norway

Strok - High tide

Strok - Low tide

Came across a piece on Wooster today that reminded me of the article I posted a few months back. The article was about the Judith Supine water piece that relied on tides so obscure parts of it. Stroks stencil in the harbour of Treana, a little island 65k km off the coast of Norway, also relies on tides.

Nice stencil and nice concept (Ha, yes, I haven't managed to get any closer to accomplishing my tidal piece in the Thames yet!!).

More of Stroks work on his flickr site, but he has turned most of his work into private viewing, so if you want to see it you'll have to add him as a contact. Here's the link anyway:

Strok article brings me back to Berlin '08 trip

Strok's self portrait stencil, Location unknown

Reading the Wooster Collective article on Strok in Traena led me to his flickr site. The very last pic in his photoset sparked a distant memory od last years Berlin trip. I scrolled back through my pics and found the Strok stencils I'd shot in East Berlin on our second last day there. Have included Strok's pic (self portrait) for reference.

Oh, it's such a small world we live in isn't it...

Urban Escapades features in the Dazed & G-Star Raw blog awards competition site

Forgot to mention a while ago that Urban Escapades blog featured in the Dazed Blog competitions, a global competition where all blogs worth their weight are nominated for the prestigious title of Dazed & G-Star Raw Blog of the year Award. Unfortunately, U-E was entered into the Fashion category instead of the Arts/culture category, so I'm expecting nothing to come from this (except perhaps a few hundred confused viewers looking for some retro slacks pics? The 4 categories are: Fashion, Music, Photography, Arts & Culture.

More new Mal Function...

Zoo Escape - Mal Function

Riveted to be here - Mal Function

Hooters Out - Mal Function

Mandrill Mayhem - Mal Function

I know it's not that long ago that I featured Mal Function's heads on this blog, but since my last article he's brought out some new colour schemes that really are quite different than the monochromatics that I featured. I really love his titles too. You can check out more on his flickr site here:
