Dubbed the 'Mixed Media Madman', and I can see why - there's nothing subtle about the artworks of John Isaacs. While some artists would like to make pretty pictures and beautify the world with their expression, John's work comments critically on how screwed up the world has become and demands attention. Every piece is a morally critical statement on the way we choose to live our lives as a species in this modern world. His hideously confronting executions can't help but make you think and riddle you with guilt on what we have become... It's like being bludgeoned about the head with our fast food guzzling, consumer driven, resource eating, air polluting, Prozac popping ways. Yep.

Not married to one medium in particular, John Isaacs will use anything at his disposal to convey his message and does so with technical precision. Check some examples from vist vast catalogue of work to the right of this post and for more examples visit:

Pulled directly off Wooster Collective site is a new project from Boxi. It features a couple of lovers who were killed in Afghanistan because of their love for each other. Here is an excerpt from the Guardian newspaper article:

A young couple who tried to elope in one of the most lawless and conservative parts of Afghanistan have been publicly executed by Taliban gunmen after their parents handed them over to be tried by insurgents. Officials from the south-western province of Nimroz say Gul Pecha, in her late teens, and her boyfriend Abdul Aziz, 21, were shot by a firing squad outside a mosque in their home village of Lokhi on Monday.The couple had fled to a nearby village and were planning to start a life together without the permission of their parents, according to the province's police chief Abdul Jabar Pardeli. But they were found by their parents and turned over to the Taliban, who held them for four days in Lokhi's mosque before putting them on trial.

This is an outstanding piece of stencil work. I think the article said there were 11 or 12 different stencils to create this life size piece. Outstanding!!

The piece is called 'To die for', and is part of the 2nd Athens biennial "HEAVEN." More info can be found about the story and how the work was created at:

Meeting of Styles 09 exhibition/symposium

Well, finally got my shit together and sorted through a couple of hundred pics I took over the 2 day graffiti extravaganza. Meeting of Styles is a live, 2 day exhibition of over 80 graffiti and street artists. I was lucky enough to be shooting there for the 2 days, and it was awesome. So many styles, so many artists, so many countries represented, so much talent! It is part of an ongoing global tour that twists and changes at each leg, evolving into a premier global event.

Some random pieces around Brick Lane and 'hood

Wandering around on the high street at the bagel end of Brick Lane when I ran into my mate Si Hill. We were standing there talking about graffiti and stuff. He showed me some of the stuff he'd photographed the week before, and I showed him some of my best of the day. We were talking about observation when I looked down at the ground and saw this piece at the bottom of a pillar at foot path level, highlighting how observant you've got to be to see everything around us (Si didn't notice it till I bent down to take the pic).

Was walking past Light Bar on Shoreditch High Street the other w/e when a stencil caught my attention. Ensuing investigation led to the discovery of a group exhibition in the courtyard. Some good stuff there, so snapped as much as I could get to.

All work was on large panels similar to the group show I saw a few months ago in Bethnal Green. Not sure whether they were new works, or left over from the show, but a lot of the same artists were representing inc. The Pilot, Stickee, 90, Snub, Dam, Stik, DBO, Numb, Eyesaw etc.

Was on my way back from the international graf exhibition near Brick Lane the other day when I spotted the new wall on the Mono Rex HQ in Shoreditch. This piece is huge, and features characters in the styles of all their artists. One of the things I love is the way they blend the surroundings into the wall. See if you can spot the pole cleverly blended in to the background...

Was surprised to come across more Jeff Soto street work on the No Lions in London site the other day. Backed up also by their blog. Now I walked up Brick Lane half a dozen times in that fortnight and only saw the blue box 'Greetings from California' piece, so not exactly sure where these pieces were - perhaps they were stolen by the time I got there?
