Bumped into Netta Peltola, a lovely young Finnish artist in Old Street about a month ago. She was doing her first commission - a mural on 333 Mother. We had a rave for a while and she told me she was just about to start a design school course. I was bowled over by this girl - an obvious abundance of natural talent and the confidence to sit on Old Street by herself for the whole weekend (she told me she'd been approached by more than her fair share of weirdos) doing this fantastic mural. I'm guessing Netta will be subsidising her course fees with a healthy dose of commissions. Good luck Netta.

I have chucked some more pics of the 333 Mother mural and her Cargo mural up on my flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hamstar/sets

Meeting of styles wall from Sclater street

Finally got my A into G and got the Sclater Street car park mural panorama comp sorted. The joins are a bit rough, but you get the idea. There must have been about 10-12 guys working on this at the time MOS was on. They all had their own spaces, but made the time to come together to create this group project. You get some idea of the scale of this project when you look at thi pic of me standing next to Nash's bit of it next to the lamp post.

Some vivid new works up when I was down in the Brick Lane hood recently. I liked this one, but unfortunately there was a car parked in the way, so couldn't get a good straight-on shot of it. The whole area has been a mecca for graffiti artists over the past few years, and MOS'09 a while back was wicked (see 'meeting of styles' posts from about 5 months ago).

This area of Bacon/Cygnet/Sclater streets is bordering a large construction site, and unfortunately the owners have changed the rules for the fences surrounding the site. It is now illegal (pretty sure it was before too, but...) and under heavy security guard and extra cctv. Crap!

Found. Refuse or Art?

Art is in the eye of the beholder. We were wondering around a vacant lot off Brick lane the other day. It's accessed down an alley way heading down the curry end of Brick Lane toward Aldgate end. There's usually some nice bits in there, and I'll chuck up some of those pics in the post after this. Anyway, so there's this hand basin in the ground next to a pile of rubble. It looks to me like it's been aesthetically placed, like some random art piece (to me resembling a face), but I'm the only one that gets it. To every one else it'd just just discarded trash.

There is a guy that does pieces down Brick Lane that are just mysteriously placed wire coat hangers, and another dude who sticks up power points, so why not bathroom fittings? I liked it, so there you go. Thoughts?

Flying toasters multiple

The flying toasters wall. Um, not much else you can say really. These babies have been gracing the walls/signs/tubes/escalators, in fact, you name a surface in London - there has probably been a flying toaster on it at some stage in the last few years. Liked this wall, so thought I'd chuck it up.

Interesting technique at Aley Paley

Saw some guys working on the designated graffiti wall at the skate area at Alexander Palace the other week, and one guy in particular stood out. Don't know his name or anything about him (other than he was the most paranoid guy I have ever seen painting a wall). Great technique though, based on an enlarged half tone dot screen blown up. Had no idea what he was painting till we got across the other side of the pond. You have to stand a long way back to get it (about 100m away). Nice. He was only about half finished when I took the pic, and I guess it's gone now, but I expect to see more of his work around.

Met the lovely Finnish artist Netta about a month ago while she was doing a wall at 333 Mother in Old street. We had a chat and I took some pics (will post that project up too soon). That was her first commission, and it went really well. This is her second, and this girl is gonna be the one to watch over the next year.

Giving Grant the Shoreditch/Hoxton tour and saw these bits, so thought I'd chuck 'em up. Loads more to come over the next few days. These two were on/near Rivingdon street.

New piece on the front wall of Cargo in Shoreditch. Not sure who the artist is yet. We went down to photograph Netta's new work there, but got this on the way in. Bonus.

New(ish) Invader in Covent Garden

Noticed a new Invader piece in Covent Garden the other week. It's on the Nike shoe shop overhang on Neal street. Check it out...

Brick Lane festival at Vibe Bar

Was down at Brick Lane the other weekend and came across a bit of a festival in the courtyard area of Vibe Bar. They usually have a record sale there on sundays (weather permitting) but had thrown up a surface onto the fenced part and contracted a few crews to put up some pieces.

Deep on the streets of Wood Green...

Been quite a while since my last post as my sister has been over from New Zealand, so I''ve been hanging out with her, which has been awesome. That said, it doesn't mean I haven't been out and about capturing images from the streets. Got some new stuff to put up soon, and a couple of features coming too, but more on that later this month.

This pic is from the Deep series. Deep is my rotational ambigram sticker design, so I'm prototyping the stencil currently. This was a quick trial, but I didn't have a ruler or any quality paint at time of impact, so it's a bit ropey really. Asked Drew if he could take a pic for me, and as I was lying on the foot path for the photo a cop car rolled up with sirens on and just about parked on my head. They had seen us from down the street and thought we were having a fight. Ha!
